My dream and these dogs?

1 of the two dreams I had last night was exactly like in real life I went to school and I came home etc. But the whole dream seemed to revolve around these dogs. The dogs were much larger than normal dogs are, about 3 1/2 feet tall standing on all 4, and 6 feet long. There were two of them and I was attacked by both but I noticed they both had big completely black eyes. They would creep around my neighborhood and one time my dad told me to grab my rifle, so I grabbed a .22 and shot it. It just flinched and ran back across the field. At the end of the dream they surrounded me and I moved quick to scare one and it backed up and put it's butt in the air and head towards the ground like it wanted to play. So I said come here and it came and I started petting it and it acted like a normal dog. One dog was all gray and had wirey hair and a long snout, the other had wavy black,brown, and white hair with a flat face. What was the purpose of the dogs in the dream?
