Am I old enough to play Sims 3?

I'm nearly 14 and I used to play Sims 2 when I was about 9, but my parents saw the game and didn't approve of it so they un installed it from our computer. I know that there are "bad things" in it and I understand them, but I've played Sims 3 for short periods of time at my friends house and it's not as bad as the 2nd one. I think I'm old enough to, but I'm scared to ask my parents because they disapprove of it. So am I actually old enough too? Thankk you :)
